Where to find cheap slate or rocks

I want some decent looking slate for my tank but the LFS sells it a 2.25/LB. Pretty expensive IMO. If you guys know of any other kinf of decoritive rock that looks cool in a tank let me know.

go to your local granate/stone counter fabracation shop and ask to raid their dumpster there always small drops and mistakes thrown out.lol

Also Home depot and Lowes have really cheap slate.

Go to your local top soil or rock yard. You can literally find hundreds of different types of rocks,sand,etc.

I search for my own rocks, very rewarding. Just be sure to properly identify and or test rocks to be sure they are compatible.

actually you can test many attributes of rocks to correctly identify them, hardness, any reaction to say hydrochloric acid or other chemicals, the color of the powder you get off of them, sheen, luster, texture, yadda yadda yadda
