I am moving some tanks around and will free up a 155 bow front. I have not acquired any fish yet but I would like to add two Oscars, a red and a tiger that has more of a patter than large vertical read areas. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can locate some quality Oscars in the San Francisco Bay area up to maybe up to and including the Sacramento area ??? I have read a lot about possible tank mates and was thinking of several silver dollars since they are schooling fish and will always be on the move. One of my other tanks as a 26" to 28" giant Gurami ! We are used to the fish interacting with us, it will be interesting to see if the Oscars are more interactive than the giant Gurami is !

Best Regards,
Bob.

Yup - just go to any LFS, and pick the ones you like best.

If you want large ones - check Craigslist for free ones.

If your gourami is anything like mine - the Oscars won't even come close - and they ARE interactive fish.

The Gourami is on his own tank and will stay that way. There is a 75 gal between the gourami's tank ad the 155 bowfront. So they can't see each other. I have to tape the glass lid down in the gourami's tank since he often splashes water all over (4 feet away).
I have checked the lfs and I see very few options, half of them don't look very healthy, and I cannot find a tiger with pattern. I was hoping there was a store that has more than one tank with 5 examples.

first off being a CA boy you in central cali. I would order online or purchase threw a local fish club. again can be found online. ACA prob being the best. http://www.cichlid.org/

rapps still has some bumble bee Oscars left I am hearing.

other than that just out for any old Oscars most fish stores have.

In the Sac area there's Exotic Aquarium or Aqua Workz. They usually have large selection. Also try your local fish club. ..SF Aquarium Society. Craigslist also. Petsmarts and Petcos always have Oscars too if you wanna go that route.

I said nothing about keeping the gourami with the oscars. You asked if the Oscars would be as personable. To which I responded "not even close." Maybe you read that part too literally?

Let me rephrase. Oscars are very interactive fish. Giant Gouramis at least those with a personality like mine, are much more so, than oscars.

As for finding oscars - just be patient, and keep visiting LFS's - and you will eventually see some that catch your eye.

ahhh, I read the post too quickly. I wonder how many seconds a baby Oscar would last with a big gourami !
I had read that Oscars were very interactive and "assumed" this meant more than a giant Gourami. I have never talked to someone with a gourami, to me they are
an aquatic dog. Mine loves cherry tomatoes.

Back to Oscars, I have been to Exotic Aquarium in the past, I used to drive 89 miles to get to capital aquarium. I bought my giant gourami there
after someone turned him in when he was about 16". Wish they were still open. I will take a look at Exotic Aquarium, its been a long time since I have been there.
I was unaware that an Oscars pattern could change, I asked at some local stores and they really didn't know.

Is their any benefit to raising a pair from a small size say 2" versus a larger 4" size ?
