Does anyone know of a place to get a wild caught female jack dempsey?
Im looking to get fresh genetics, not the mass produced cb stuff.

Don't know of anyone that has them at the moment. Jeff Rapps (Tangeled up in Cichlids) brought some in last spring. That was the first time I saw wild cought JD's brought in, in many years. Check him out and see if he has any plans to import anymore.

There are several populations of feral JD's in the United States. These fish will be the same aquarium strains you don't want however. These are fish released from hobbiest that have survived and established breeding populations. They are no closer to naturaly occuring populations then any other fish bought at your LFS. Pretty much the same as domestic fish grown out in a pond in your back yard. So geneticly speaking no fresher the what you can buy at the LFS.

You have a good point, I didnt think of it like that. Thanks.

Would it really make sense to breed a female JD from a known population with a tank raised male of unknown provenance?

Matt
