They make string for mounting plants to logs and such that will break down by itself in the aquarium over time, but I can't find any. Anyone know?

I was hoping to save the step of clipping it off by using biodegradeable thread, but I'm thinking the cotton thread may be the best thing for that.

You probably could use hemp, I find that fishing line or dark colored cotton threads are the best for not being seen however.

The thread takes awhile to decompose actually as well...fishing line is my go to these days.

Just cut some off a log that was holding down moss. Its really not as much of a hassle as when you originally think about putting it into your tank.

I had a tough time finding cotton thread when I needed it, seems like every store I went to was selling polyester ... but that is what I would use ...

or you could grow the hemp yourself.......;)

cotton thread or hemp would be your best bet.

Wow, a lot of good info guys. Thanks for the help.
As an aside, apparently cotton thread is uncommon these days. My girlfriend sews and everything she had was polyester. A previous poster said it's hard to find in stores too. =/
