Hey everyone,

Some time ago I heard thiers a certain time of the year when black aros are usually cheaper...is that true? Also I defintly would to start off with the smallest availible.

Also the tank will be 180 6x2x2 which i know is too small when thier larger...however till what size do you think he will be good in this tank and how long? Also should I add objects be placed on the surface of the water to prevent drop eye? (I know black aros are more resistant of drop eye...but better be safe then sorry

Ive never had an aro so im unsure of thir flexibility...

Thanks!

Baby blacks are generally the cheapests but are only availabe in the spring. Right now 5-8" growouts are available, but hard to find and pricey. In the fall and early winter you'll be able to get wild caught blacks 10-12".

Your 180g will support a black aro upto 24-25". So in a couple years youll be looking at a larger tank. Typically black aros raised from babies grow quicker then the wild caught sub-adults. With either though, have solid plans to upgrade to at least a 300g tank with a 96"x30" footprint in a couple years.

Thanks, guess I will have to wait it out... If im unable to upgrade to the much larger tank for the health of the fish i would be more then happy just to give it away, instead of cramming him in the 180 in case im unable to upgrade.

Alot of myths and different lines of thought regarding DE. With black aro there is basically no chance of it developing DE.

Aros are alot of fun to grow out.

Blacks tend to be easier to re-home as well if you end up not upgrading.

Thanks BD for clearing that drop eye thing

Owens, thats also a reason why I chose the black over an aro...should be way easier to rehome a black aro.

Now that i think about it...maybe I would settle with a small aro...any where up to 8 inches...anyone know of any vendors that sell black aros?

Good move, big silvers are common as anything and difficult to give away. A 2' black on the other hand should fetch a reasonable price to the right buyer.

Thanks, yeah silvers are way to common lol almost like oscars.

I'll give a look at the vendors, thanks
