Where to get some Black plastic Mesh...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am not really sure but I would try Ebay, I have found some great deals on fish stuff.

HomeDepot in CA sells them. Is there HomeDepot in your neck of the woods?

That's funny Michaels usually sells the black plastic mesh, I buy mesh from them all the time to make dividers. Have you tried some type of farm store or Home Depot? Usually farm stores sells black meshes. Or maybe some type of arts and crafts store similar to Michaels.

WOW, Thanks for the response on this topic people!

Okay I have to admit that i only tried looking online as I'm the type that shops from home whenhn I have the time and then goes "To" the store "To Purchase". lol

This is exactly the stuff that I'm looking for. This is why. I'm receiving a 3D "Feature Rock Background" from Unicersal Habitats on Tuesday and I'm want to use this type of mesh to allow water flow through the Rocks.

There is:
-A Large Rock that is 22" H x 46" L x 4"-10" W. (Towards the left side of the tank)
-A Smaller Rock that is 8" H x 10" L x 9" W. (Attached to the R-Side of the larger Rock above)
-A Medium Rock that is 12" H x 16" L x 16" W (On the Right Corner of the Tank...

These will all be siliconed to the tank and will need waterflow grates.

Large Feature Rock (the Picture Obviously show incorrect dimensional proportions)

I will have 2 Colonies of tropheus (24 T. Moorii and 21 T. Sp. Black) that will most likely end up spawning and releasing the fry into the tank. I want the holes small enough to keep the fry out but large enough to not trap any free floating waste... Are there a selection of sizes to choose from at the stores? I don't really wna tot have to buy it online.

Thanks for your input!

How will you get the detritus from inside the rock? It will definitely collect in there over time, and will definitely be a source of poor water quality.

Wouldn't the waste just flow into the rock and then up the FX5 pipe? And then in the corner rock, the flow of powerhead wouldn't allow this stuff to settle between the out of the FX5 AND the powerhead, both on the same end, I wouldn't think that things would have time to settle...

Check this sketch out. It's a little more of what I'm thinking... This is actually Cery Close to the Real proprtioning of the Rock to the Tank...

You would think it would all be suspended in the water column, but the answer is no, it won't. It will find it's way into the smallest little area and accumulate. You should plan for a way to clean out the inside of the decoration.

In your diagram, you will certainly get detritus in the area on the extreme left, extreme right, and in between (and below) each grate. I'll go out on a limb and say the center rock as well, since it won't be a tremendous amount of flow through there.

I'm not trying to tear up your ideas. I'm just trying to assist in finding potential problem areas.
