just wondering if anyone here knows where i could order 5 or more of each kind. would like to order both types of fishes from one place to avoid paying more for shipping. i was thinking of ordering these from jeff rapps, but just wondering if anyone else here knows someone that might be closer/cheaper. it looks like if i order 5 ebjd's and five festae red terrors im looking at $162.00 without shipping. someone on here in a previous thread said they bought 5 ebjd's shipped to their door for $75.00. myself and a buddy are going in on all these fish and would like to have a breeding pair of each for our own. is five of each type of fish hopefully enough to get at least 2 males and 2 females of each type. help me please.

You could try AquaScape Online. I have heard they are pretty reasonable. The fish look nice on their site, and they have tons of positive feedback on their livestock. Their website is:www.aquascapeonline.com I hope that helps. Good luck in the search.

Hollywood is selling high quality Blue Dempseys on Aquabid for real good prices… his shipping is costs are about the lowest I’ve seen anywhere… $30 from California to North Carolina… not bad at all… cheaper than Rapps to send them from PA to NC… but he does not carry RT’s…

Blue Dempseys are almost all males. It is highly unlikely that you will get 2 females out of 5 fish… I’ve raised 3 broods of 6~8 Blue Dempseys and have only had one female grow to adulthood…

If your truly committed to obtaining two pairs of Blue Dempseys I suggest buying a large group of around 15 fish… grow them out to sexual maturity… choose the 4 you wish to keep and sell the others at a “profit”. By the time you factor in the costs of growing them out (space/food/energy) and add that to the initial cost of the fish… you probably won’t clear a profit but could probably get your 2 pairs for free… adult Blues hold a pretty high price…

I found a RT at a local fish auction… checking local fish clubs is an excellent place to start looking for fish…

Buy from Hollywood, the fish are the best in the market. Fat and healthy (which many EBJD are not) and at $10 a pop and $30 shipping you can't go wrong, I bought 10 from him and it cost be $130 total including shipping. I have 1.5-2" festaes for $5 each and can ship 5-6 fish Express for about $30. Add that up and your cheaper than anywhere else to get the fish want. Ken

As to the rest of your question, it is usually recommended that you get six fish in order to form ONE pair. Trying to get two pair out of five fish is pretty unlikely. Otoh, have you asked Rapps if he's able to sex the festae? That would improve your odds (even if there are two of each sex, that doesn't ensure that they will pair up). As mentioned, the ebjds are a whole other issue, and even if you had a pair, a pair of ebjds is not likely to produce viable offspring. Ebjds are typically bred with regular jds, and the offspring then crossed back to the ebjd.

:iagree: If you breed an ebjd with an ebjd, the eggs will not hatch. You have to get a male ebjd and breed it with a regular female dempsey. Then you growout those babies (will not be ebjd, but will have the gene) and take one of those females and breed that female (w/ the gene), with your original ebjd male. This process takes a very long time!:)

He's Hollywood on Aquabid and he is breeding EBJD from pure parents, not outcrossing, Check out his auctions, it was only a matter of time before someone did bred pure fish, and they are not like the weak fish that die that first came on the market. Ken
