O.k. hope I'm in the right place, normally i just lurk in the shadows of the site & don't know much bout posting but here goes:) Thinking of switching out the med size river pebble substrate in my 125gal for something smaller. Was seriously thinking of black sand but not sure I want to deal with the threat of getting sand in my canisters. I know there's smaller than normal gravel, like halfway between sand and gravel but don't know what it's called or where to find it. Has anyone used it or know of it? I've had regular size gravel and the med river pebbles but would like something smaller that doesn't allow quite as much food and waste to get trapped. And like I said, not sure I even want to think about dealing with chewing up my canister filters with sand particles the first time my Red hooks, Pleco or Oscar decide to get a little insane. So any suggestions for SMALL gravel? Goods or bad's? Thanks:)

Easier to look for large sand than small gravel, or look at filter media too. I have small gravel in my tanks and it was bagged as larger sand filter media.

Thanks for the info. Wasn't having any luck finding anything online and my LFS is very small. Will check online again or maybe pick something up in Denver this summer:)

At one point does large sand become small gravel? :D

I used that peace river stuff in a tank and it is pretty much what you're looking for. Expensive though.

I think most caribsea gravel is fine. Try petmountain, petsolution, or drsfosterandsmith.
