No matter what push the water towards the filter inlet. If you want to kick up the bottom place it near the bottom about 5-6 inches of bottom (depends on your substrait) I have my filter (fx5)outlet on the bottom laying down pushing water left to right towards filter intake which is about 2inches off the bottom and one pushing water up toward power head intake above it with that power head pointing left to right but up to really move the surface water and I run air through it to airate really well. This setup works very good. Hope that helps. I know it will help keep tank clean. What filter setup do you have? I can give more suggestions if I know your setup better. What filter, substrait, etc

Let me know how that thing pushes water. I was thinking of getting a couple of the 1400 but my new tank is 3/4inch Thick and I worry it might not hold well as they are only good for 1/2 inch thick. But I think that's just the magnets not the suction cup. So I think I will get one of the 2200 magnums. Prob need two. Anyone want to donate to my cause of adequate water flow?? Can't hurt to ask
