Ok, I want to add a HOB filter to my tank to increase turnover rate. The turnover rate now is about 6 in my tank. My tank is overcrowded so until I upgrade I need to increase turnover rate. I will add one HOB filter but I don't know how many gph yet. The problem is that my tank has a plastic hood which sits on the tank and all the edges can't hang a filter. So what should I do? I prefer HOB filters...

Most all "full" hoods have an area at their back that are designed to be easily cut for filters or plumbing.
Hacksaw or shears are often used.

just use a hacksaw and cut whatever shape/size hole you need in the hood...

hacksaws are made of metal.. hoods are made of plastic... if you cant figure out how to get the job done then i would be worried about your willingness to combine water with electricity

for the task at hand you DO want this hacksaw :)

as much as it pains me to say this... you do NOT want this hacksaw :(

Usually they work best if you Hang On Back of the tank.
