Where to put new Fish

I just ordered a 2.5" Trimac from Rapps.

I have a 180 where he will eventually live with a 12" femal vieja ufermani.
and a 4" convict and 5" gold saum.

1. Would you put him in the 180 now and take the chance of him getting picked at by the convict and GS?
2. Put him in a 55 and let him get bigger?
3. Get rid of the convict and GS and put him in the 180?

The Ufermani won't hassle him.

55 sounds like a better option. Easier for it to find food too...

Id put the convict and GS in the 55 and the t-mac in the 180, if you honestly believe the ufermani wont mess with it. I say this because the last thing Id want is a t-mac growing up without tankmates and then all of the sudden having competition and having to lay the law down, which he will do to everyone but the con...simply because a con can take it as well as dish it out.

My Trimac growouts are about half that size. I'm keeping them in a small aquarium until they gain some more size. It is much easier for them to find food in the smaller tank. It depends on the chance that you are willing to take with your other fish. It would be terrible if you added the Trimac to the 180 only to find it torn apart in a few hours. If you have enough hiding spaces for him it could work out. They grow fast anyway.
