i had my flowerhorn for over 3 years. its not growing a bump that looks like exploding . is it the type of it ? or cuz its a female ? becuz before i had two fh. they happened to mate. the bigger one is what i have . and little one died, let me know please im confused . :screwy:

Some breeds have very little or even no protruding head. But the female normally dont have the hump. Although some can have a little. Sence you say you had two and that they breed for you in the past and that you have the little one now. I would be willing to bet it is the female. Normally if they are to pair up successfully the female should be a good deal smaller than the male. Around half his size is good. She can become very agressive during this time and cause real damage even death to the male if she is to large and he can not put her in check!

Not all FH grow up to have big foreheads. Yes it does have something to do with the strain of the FH. Most of the FHs that have really large foreheads are usually of the kamfa/jinhua strain. Lineage normally dictates whether or not the FH will have a large forehead. Some females grow foreheads too, but it's very rare they grow one as big as the male's.

my friend said her was going to get this awesome hybrid fish called a flowerhorn with a huge bulging head, but his doesnt bulge either. i think the cheap ones don't have the exploded head

Bro FHmaniac is correct it would vary from strain to strain of FH to attain an exploding forehead. i hope i can upload some of it correctly. :woot: this are island born crosses in the Philippines
