In search of Leiarius
I Can't decide between Silver, Black , and African Bonytongue.

THe setup is a 300gallon Rubbermaid Stock Tank, some floating plants and driftwood, hides for the catfish, tankmates would be 3 giant rapheals (tl 30"), 1 Leiarius pictus (tl 30"), 1 Channel catfish (tl 30"). Ph would be in the low 7's, and temp in the 78-80f. filtration is 1100gph, going through filter pads and 58lbs of seachem pond matrix.

The tank dimensions are 63" x 69" x 25"

I would like to Know which is the best arowana for the setup.

You have 5 cats that are all 30"? If so you'll need to get a good sized aro, probably over 24" and IMO that would make that tub quite over stocked. Since you never really going to see the arowana you might as well just go with a silver aro.

Bderick67, I feel like I hit a nerve, haven't set it up yet waiting on filtration to be shipped, and will get fish after its cycled.

So what does (tl 30") mean? I assumed total length 30". So you don't have any fish yet?

Either way IMO the 300g tub's length is too short and would only work as a grow out for a black or silver. Not sure about an afro, but I believe they also get well above 30".

Sorry your pissed Bderick67 but I have or had no intention of pushing your buttons.

TL does mean total length that is the total length they can reach based on my research. So if I used tl wrong, my bad and please educate me.

Right, I have no fish yet. How is that impotant Iam sticking with the catfish no matter what, the only thing I haven't decided on is other fish in with them.

Not sure why you think I'm pissed? I just misunderstood, you made it sound as if you already had 5 thirty inch catfish, that's all.

What are you going to do to keep the arowana from jumping out of the tank? Because they are known to be jumpers.

Sorry I thought I upset you.

Iam going to cover the tank in a clear plastic tarp, when not drooling over my fish, that would be tied down just enough so it has some give. That way if any fish does jump it won't hurt itself after hitting it or land on the ground and suffocate. I think it is a pretty good idea.

I'd agree that it sounds a tad short and that having 5 potentially 30" Catfish will be overstocked perhaps bump that number down to say 2 30" or perhaps smaller cats....and a Jar would be my best guess but this limits your fish by a bit. And yeah afros get around 20"-32"

a 300g tub might sound huge, but trust me its not. having 5 catfish in one will already be well beyond maxed out, so i would forget about adding any aro or other fish.
