I am thinking of setting up a 180 gallon native tank for sunfish, bluegills, etc. I almost bought a Blue Channel Catfish at a lfs today, they were advertised as reaching 27" max. I came home to research first and learned they may get bigger??? So what's the biggest species of cat that will thrive in a room temp native tank?? Bullhead??

I think he wants native only. Any of the bullhead should work. Maybe even perhaps a white catfish.

Any bullhead if you stick to natives, 12" is fairly common for browns, blacks and yellows as well and they will reach that size in under a year. They usually max out at around 16". A lot of madtoms will work in an room temp. tank but most are quite small.

Am I correct that a Blue Channel cat will get too big for a 180?
