Which Cichlid would do great in a 3ft long 1.5ft wide 2ft tall tank? That's about 65gal i think..

My idea of a great Cichlid would be an interactive, colorful species which can be housed with other smaller fish like some tetras or barbs... only thing is i dont know much about cichlids and cant find one which fits that description :D

i have two oscars in my pond so no more oscars!

Would love to hear your suggestions.. thank u :)

Sajica
Firemouth
Geo Pindare (possibly any of the other Geo's that max out around 6 inches)
Keyhole (not very active)
Female Salvini
Maybe a Blue Acara

There's lots more, but these are the first that come to mind.

I would go with 6 firemouths (which you will probably wind up down to 2 pairs as they get older) and a nice sized group of platys, mollies or swordtails.

:)

not 6 firemouths... that's too much for a 65 gallon tank. Salvinis are too aggressive for small fish like tetras and barbs. the only cichlid species that I can think of that would work in this setup are bolivian rams and german blue rams. Pretty fish, small, community tank compatible.

footprint is small for anything to big. I agree with rams then maybe festivums and a few angels with some tropical fish added.I think this would give the tank a nice balance and plenty of movement.

Thanx for the great suggestions, these fish look amazing.. but my lfs guy hasnt even heard of these species. haha.. this sucks..
btw what exactly do u mean by footprint?? how big should it be if i were to house a jag?? on the sticky it says 75gal min does that mean i should increase the length or width of the tank??

Most CA/SA cichlids are bottom dwellers and establish territories that they aggressively defend. Most tall tanks don't work for the aggressive cichlids of the new world because there isn't enough territory for them to defend.
