I'm a newb to fish. I started off with a community tank and my roomie gave me three 4" red Jewls. I have them in my 40gallon tank. He said I should get rid of my community fish and just go cichlids.. This may be a good possibility. So providing I adopt out my community fish I was thinking about maybe adding one or two more cichlids to the 40. So now for my questions, what other cichlids would go well with the Jewls and if I introduce new fish should they be around the same size as my Jewls or could I introduce smaller younger fish successfully? How many fish can a 40gal support?

The problem you will run into is if you end up with a pair (of the Jewels). These little guys are terrors once they are in breeding mode. If no pairs, I would stick with cichlids from the African Riverine as this is the natural habitat of Jewel Cichlids. Good luck, and post up some pics!!
Yea I Here they are hell with fins breeding but so far they mind their own and are pretty peacefull. Theve been together since they were tiny. How do I tell If they pair up? Thank you much for the input. I'll post pics once I figure out how.
