knew jerzay
1. X2 Emperor 400
2. X1 Emperor 400 + X1 sunsun 265gph canister
3. X1 AC110 + X1 Emperor 400

I personally like the first one the most because i will get new filters= quiet, but number three is the cheapest but i really dont wanna hang onto the AC110s and the second one i have to pay shipping for the sunsun..

Thanks!!

How heavily stocked are you thinking?

Number three has the best combo of mechanical, biological, and cheapness but if you're not happy with ac-110s then go with the one you like.

I have two emp400's on a 48x14.5x16 50g that goes through varying levels of stock and it works fine most of the time but I feel it doesnt have enough flow to keep up at higher levels of stock. The addition of a power head to option one would be relatively cheap and I think improve the capacity to handle a higher stock.

On the other hand I have two ac-110's and an xp3 on a 187g stocked moderately with a few 4-13" cichilds and it keeps up quite well.

Comparing canisters to HOBs is like comparing apples to oranges... each style has different pros and different cons... mixing them compounds some of the pros but erases some as well...

Any one of your three options is likely to work as well as the next...

I use two AC-110s on my 75 gal tanks and I'm quite happy with the results...

The 'trick' to keeping a heavily stocked tank healthy has a lot more to do with maintenance than filtration... clean your filters and do your water changes and any of the three will likely suit you just fine.

i would go with the hob a can combo. ac110 and eheim 2217.
I have a Emperor 400 and Eheim 2217 on my 75's.Works great.

Because you said you are strapped for cash, why don't you just buy the Emperor, run that with your AC,and save up until you can afford a canister. Then run the canister with one of your HOB's.
