I just got the info on the black bar coloring crossing under the ventral side from fishbase and have no personal experience, fishbase does contain some errors so as Mil said, "Where's Jesse?"

The valid name is D. pulcher (Widebar).

I'm still not convinced though. Where's Jesse?!
Ming, I agree with your initial assessment--looks like a very nice Indonesian datnoid (Datnioides microlepis) to me. The middle bar "blobs" forward like an Indo, whereas a true pulcher has a backward sweep to it. Also, although by no means dispositive, the three tail stripes tend to suggest Indo. Yeah, I know that the middle bar typically crosses the ventral surface on Indos and not on pulchers, but the other signs are saying Indo. That's my opinion. Either way, it's worth a bunch given the rarity of datnoids in Australia. :)

Sheesh, I'd sure hate to have to defend my opinion with the explanation, well, you see, sir, it had blobby bars. :(

Its an indo.

Where abouts are you in Australia?

Want to sell it?

Datnioides (Coius) microlepis
