ive kept a lm bass for about 6 months before taking it back and the other day i was lucky and got a 4" sm bass. so far i can tell the sm is alot shyier but i gotta say i enjoy looking at the sm much better. another diference i can keep the smallmouth feed for now, maybe once he gets less shy he will go on an eating rampage like my lm did.

i was just wondering which one you enjoyed keeping more.

Yea I like LMB better. But I have a LMB so that is why.

I am sure that he took it back to the hatchery that it came from, or took it back to a private pond! No one in their right mind would release captive fish into our waterways!

Right now I have both species, and the lm is much less frustrating to keep. It will eat almost anything I feed it, including pellets. The smallmouth will inly eat krill, minnows, and crayfish. The largemouth is also much more aggressive, and chases the sm all the time lol. I dont think I have a favorite, they both have their positive and negative aspects.

thats right it was in a private pond that i caught and released him.

ill have to give the smallmouth more time but the only thing that i like better for now is the pattern on the sm is much more apealing to me then just a green blob

If you give your SM lots of cover, his shyness will change pretty fast. I had a small one in a 90gal with bluegill a while ago. He was really scared all the time untill I put a bunch of rocks and logs in there. Then he stayed up front and center all the time.

Mine sits and stares at me all the time, begging for food. The largemouth only comes up when it is hungry, maybe once a day.

LMB are easier to keep but I like SMB better.
