I am working on my filter setup etc for my new 480G tank, now i am stuck with which doser to use in the 24hr auto water change, the water safe i use i need to add 45ml per 240G i change in the week, is there a good doser i can add to the system that i should look for?

Is there a special type?

Ah found it, i have been looking for this that Pharoah did, by looks i dont need to use water safe as this uses a Dechloriantor.

Well, my system is setup to filter the water before it ever enters the tank. It is an in-line chlorine/chloramine filter.

If you are want to actually dose the tank with prime, etc you would be looking for what is called a Dosmatic pump.

Dosing systems will most likely need to be pre-mixed(diluted) and then added to the tank after.

Hii Pharaoh, would you say your set up would be easyer to live with and no real need to use a water prime?
I was looking into it late last night and i like your set up, nice and easy and i can gat all the parts easly and localy to.
I was thinking of doing either 35g a day on the timer or 70g every 2 days. with this filter

http://allaboutkoi.co.uk/10-pod-water-purifier-p-29723.html

if i set the timer for 35mins a day every day.......as easy as that.....yes?

should do the job..yes? and last on my tank near 8 months before the filter cartridge needs changing.

The other thing was though if i do a larger WC straight from cold feed then there is a bigger chance of it cooling the tank water to much if i add it into the tank.....unless i let it feed into the heater chamber.

Do you tink it would do much to the temp drop if the 35g per day was going into the tank? It can get cold over here in the UK in winter but never have frozen pipes, this winter it got down to -10 and all was fine, colder mains water obviousley.

Thanks

I intend to use the same system as a water changer on my new 250.
Far easier than using a dosing pump as the HMA,chloromine filter will remove Chloromine, heavy metals.
If you use the chloro plus 10" filter
http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=24_42&products_id=161

You will be good for 45,000 litres of water at 1 ppm chloromine, which is nearly 10,000 gallons of water before the filter needs changing.
Also if you drip it into the tank via an irrigation dripper you can drip it in slowly so the temperature will have no affect on the tank as a whole, you can get drippers that range from 1-20 gph, i am planning on using 4 GPH for my auto water change system.
The system you are looking at as with most HMA's requires a flow rate 1-2 gallons per minute so 35 mins should equal 35-70 gallons depending on your flow rate. That may well affect the temperature,by having it running longer but using a dripper you can put the water in more slowly therefore having less of an impact on temperature.I will be running mine 12 hours a day and at 4gph that will be roughly 20% the tank volume per day

Try Neo's doser. Thats about the most high-tech DIY doser you can find around here.

I prefer having the water filtered. The only issue with using a chloramine filter is the ammonia byproduct. I like it as it will help keep the tank cycled pretty much all of the time and the risk of something failing in the system is pretty low. I never use prime on my drip system tanks unless I did an actual water change for some reason.

That's about it. The only thing you need to know is how fast the water will come out. When running on a timer, I was getting about 1/2-3/4 gallons per minute. I ran mine for 60 minutes a day and then for a couple of hours on Saturday to help simulate a bigger water change.

The other thing was though if i do a larger WC straight from cold feed then there is a bigger chance of it cooling the tank water to much if i add it into the tank.....unless i let it feed into the heater chamber.

Whether you put the water into the heating chamber or not, it doesn't really make a difference as it will still get mixed into the tank water. Just throw a bit larger heater in there and you should be fine.

I'm dripping about 24 gpd into my 300, running a 500W heater. I've never seen the temperature fluctuate since I turned it on. It all depends on the room temperature though.

Neo's dosing method works, but I think there are too many points of failure for my personal preference.

Thanks guys for the help/info, i like to keep things simple latley, i can get carried away a bit and loose myself. I will go with the set you have Pharaoh, nice and easy, that easy is the reason in had to check on it, nice bit of kit mate.

Once the tank is inplace i will set the drip up and see what to set the timer for, well how fast the drip works etc.

Cheers again

Was because you wanted a slow drip? Could the chloramine filter be run at a higher rate?

About the maximum is 1-2 GPM as far as I am aware, any faster and I am assuming that there is not enough contact time between the water and filter for it to work correctly.
