Alright everybody, I'm getting a 180 gallon tank within the next month and really like spiney eels. I love fire eels but don't know if it could be housed in the 180 it's whole life. I want a larger eel. Any suggestions are great! Freshwater only!

You're missing out on all the great eels in saltwater, I hope you reconsider, the SW eels are more colorful and interesting to watch feed and behavior-wise

Really? Well I need my 180 gallon to be freshwater because I have a Florida gar that will be in there when it's larger. But my 75 gallon would then be empty. So if I made my 75 gallon saltwater then what type of eels would you suggest?

A snowflake moray might be able to fit in the 75. I have heard of them being successfully kept on 70s. I love snowflakes, and deffinately think you should get one. I would get one myself but I don't have the money to start up a saltwater tank right now :/ the fire eel could fit in there easily though. Tire tracks are awesome and pretty friendly, at least mine is.

Golden dwarf morays are awesome...stay small and are compatible with most fish unlike the bigger guys. The price has also gone down on these I believe. Gymnothorax richardsoni are cool small eels too.

Yeah saltwater wasn't really in my budget but I will definitely look into it. I'm kinda nervous about saltwater not only because of more costly, but also more water parameters to keep up with as well as lighting, salinity, and everything. Thanks

Awesome! I'll definitely do some research on it and see if I can do it. Thanks for the suggestions!
