in behalf of my cousin he wants somebody else opinion on this. He has a 60gallon and im not sure what he will be stocking.
I guess price is not the issue, so which one do you guys think is better for his aquarium?

i am in love with my 2028. i have 2 on my 135...get it! pet solutions has them the cheapest with all the best media, like 16 bucks shipping but no tax.

He said that both are almost rated the same. Why pick the 2028? is their something unique?
Im guessing hes going to ask vice versa if you where to pick 2217.
thanks in advance.

2217's are great. I have no experience with the 2028 or any of the Professional series Eheims for that matter, but I'm sure they're top quality. If price isn't an issue, go for the Professional.

I know the Classics also come with EHFI media, which is absolutely top notch; not sure about the Pro's.

All eheims come with ehfi medias, Eheim Filter's media. Most of their filters now come with ehfisubstrat pro. If money isn't an issue, I'd go with a pro 3e 2076 or 2078. I run both, and they are a better version of the pro 2s. All three types of filters are top notch though. Between the 2217 and the 2028 you are just looking at convenience. Between the 2028 and 3e you are adding a computer chip, that can adjust the flow, and switch the flow automatically. Regardless of which you choose, you will get a workhorse of a filter.

Does having a chip, increase the chance of wear and tear and breaking down = to costly repair?
If not would the 2076 be sufficient for stand alone on a 60gallon? as compare to a 2028 which is rated at 160gallon as to 105gallons?

All the chip does is help protect the pump, and control flow on the pump. I'd recommend the 3es over the pro 2s.

Eheim's also introducing smaller 3 and 3e's. There is a pro3 2075 comming out that is rated the same as 2217 and 2228 but with a pre filter setup like the 3 and 3e's. They've been showing them off at inter zoo 08 in Germany. (big trade show)
