My firend has a 650 litre aquarium with about seven cichlids, one Oscar, and one pleco.

He wants to replace his internal filter with an external canister. Which brand and model would work for his tank.

I saw Fluval and I think their highest was for a 400 litre tank. Tetra's was less I think. Which Eheim model is good or any other brand?

First thing, you should not rely on one filter for the entire tank on its own. Personally for a tank that big, I'd look into the eheim 2080, 2078, 2260, or 2262. Add to one of those canister filters, 2 to 4 AC110 filters. Run the ac110s with 2 foams and one biomax each.

Howdy,

I used to run a 2080 on a 220 gal (800 L), and it was not enough. You may want to think about two 2260

i currently have an fx5 and a eheim 2080 running my 180 which is pretty close to the same as yours and mine seems to be doing fine :)
