I would prefer a power filter. There is a aquatech filter on it now rated for a 20g, but I dont want to rely on that little filter. The only other kind of power filter ive ever owned is the emp 400s, and they seem very good, seems like a lil much for a 20 though. There is going to be a pair of convicts in the tank about 2 1/2 - 3 inches long. What do you all think would be a good filter for this lil setup? I need a heater as well, but ive decided on a jager 100w with the help of a previous thread, itll be here in a couple of days. Thanks for any suggestions.

If it's just for breeding feeders you can do a DIY with a powerhead for super cheap. Here's mine. Works for a 75gallon.

Check out the aquaclear filters, an AC 50 would be more than enough. The selling point for me on them is the media versatility, and not cartridges. You have a sponge, then bio, and you can tweak to your hearts content. I have a mess 'o 70's and 110's. I've increased the bio media using SeaChem and Eheim pro, I buy sheets of micron pad and cut to fit. It varies from tank to tank, but I have peat, nitrazorb, purigen, carbon. Whatever you need or want. Just buy in bulk and a slew of media bags and you're good to go. Having discovered these I'd never go back to using an HOB filter that takes cartridges again.

Check out BigAlsOnline.com for a good price. $70 = free shipping, discount code nanoreef will get you 10% off the order.

nyvar I was actual;ly looking at the ac50 filter, reviews are really good for it and it seems to flow really well. But, I just found one on bigalsonline thats on sale for $24, Its a marineland penguin 350b, they say it filter 330gph and its good for aquariums up to 70 gallons. This should filter the hell outta the lil 20, and its a great price. what do ya think?

Looks like it would be a really good filter for the money, I dont see a single bad review on it either.

The only non AC filter I have running is a penguin 350 that I've had for years it's pretty sweet and $24 is a steal, go for it. I just hate dealing with cartridges, and replacing them.
