Which filter should I go with? They are about the same price. I know the Fluval is rated for a 400 gallon tank while the Ehiem is for about a 158 gallon tank but my tank is only a 125 wide so I'm thinkin the Eheim might be enough although I am planning on keeping some fairly large fish so I may need more filtration. I am also running a UV sterilizer and a Del Ray 125 Wet/Dry with an Eheim Hobby pump rate for 605 gph.

Also, I keep hearing that the tubing on the FX5 are really thick. Will they fit through the standard 1 inch holes on the top of a TruVu tank. I would rather not have to dremel them out.

So what do you guys think? Should I go with the Eheim 2028 or the Fluval FX5?

Neither. Get an Eheim 2250.

Rated for 260 gal, outperforms the FX 5 by far and the 2028 by almost a gallon regarding volume for biofiltration and costs about the same (~$200)

I think Im going to go with the Eheim 2260. Will that be too much for my 125 though?

What is the difference between the Eheim Pro II filters and the 2250 or 2260 filters besides the gallons it is rated for?

Thanks for the suggestions!

2260 wont be too much, you cant have too much filtation. i had a 2260 and 2x 2128 on a 105G and all was perfect.
the big difference (next to filter capacity) is the shape and design. The 2250/60 are classics and are just a bucket with a big pump on it. The pro's have baskets, making them easier to clean. If i were you i would get the 2260 but put the media in nets, so when you need to clean (twice a year) you can easily pic up one net and wash it and leave the rest.

So the 2260 doesnt have any compartments for media? Is it just open inside with a couple of pads? Could some please explain? Thanks!

No it doesn't has compartments, but you can use nets to put your media in to make them easyer removeble.

I got 2 xp3 on my 125W but you cant beat the price on that eheim... wish they were there when I did mine.
