Thought I'd ask the experts. I'm currently setting up my 125g tank and have an Eheim 2080 and a Fluval 405. Should I just run the 2080 by itself or should I run it in conjunction with the Fluval and use the Fluval for another tank? If I should use both which would be better for the bio and the mechanical? Thanks!

Depends how heavily stocked your tank is. For instance I keep peacock bass so I would use both.

edit: Honestly Just load both up with biomedia, if you really want to polish your water I would use polishing pads in the 405 since the 2080 holds more media.

Very coincidental. I just setup a 125 with an Eheim 2080 and Fluval 406. I bought the Eheim media kit for the 2080, so it takes care of the bio. The 406 I got to assist with mechanical filtration, because the 2080 doesn't seem to do great on mechanical filtering. Right now I just have what came with the 406 in it. I'm going to add more biomax, and put purigen in place of the carbon I think.

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I think that's what I'll do. I bought that starter pack for the 2080 that comes with the substrat & ehfimech. That thing is going to be full of bio media so I think I got that covered. I do have ceramic rings in the 2 lower trays of the 405 but I'm thinking just putting carbon and polishing pads in the 405 for water clarity. What do you think?

That sounds good. I'm going to do the same with my 406 when it's time for the first cleaning. I'm going to use purigen instead of carbon though, since it last longer and is rechargeable. Good luck.

I bought the big container of Marineland Black Diamond carbon. I'm going to use that up first and look into the Seachem purigen. Sounds like it would be more economical in the long run. Good luck and thanks!
