Hi. i had an old under gravel filter and was wondering if it would be reliable for my 75gallon oscar fish? Should i stick with the regular filter? I was told that under gravel are not for monster fish, is that true?

thankyou:screwy:

You were told correctly. Undergravel filters are pretty much useless with big cichlids. Get you a canister and a hangon and you will be good to go. An XP3 used with an AC70 or emperor 400 would be perfect for a 75g with an oscar to keep your tank clean.

undergravel filters are no good for oscars, they will dig up everything, move stuff.my o piles up the gravel in the corners of the tank.thats no good for an undergravel filter.

As stated above, UGF's are obsolete. It cause more harm then good. I would just get a canister filter. A Fluval 405 would work good with a AC 110 HOB.

:iagree:

Agree - UGF's are obsolete and would no way work for an oscar. UGF's are only good for a little tank with a no load.

I generally go with a canister/HOB combo. I have a Penguin 330, an Aqua Clear 500, and an Eheim 2213 on a 75 that I plan to keep one large cichlid in.
