So I am about a week away from starting the pond build. I estimate about 600-700 gallons. I will be making a 50gal drum filter system.

I have 2 ideas for pump/plumbing:

1. Internal Hy-drive 3200 pump (thinking a pump in the pond will help keep the temps up so my heaters work a little less)

2. External dart pump

Anyone see any problems with my design ideas?

Thanks!

I think you will get better results from #1, but #2 is visually pleasing.

I think I was 1/2 asleep when I made this post. (The title anyway)

I'm not concerned about how it "looks"

I'm more interested in function.

The pond will hold a RTC and possibly RTC X TSN so I want mega water turnover and huge filtration!

Go with #1 and if there is any chance of the pump getting clogged, put a high-flow sponge pre-filter on the pump intake.

#2 would need to be a more expensive self-priming pump also.

What media are you considering for the filter?

Thanks for the input everyone.

Dr. Joe, I was going to go with the design I found on this site. Floor buffing pads at the top, a ton of scrubbies under that, then at the bottom the heaters. Not sure of exact heater placement(thinking in pvc pipes to keep from melting the barrel), but I'm hoping 3 300 watt titanium all set one or 2 degrees apart will be enough. (the pond will have a cover with viewing windows, 2" rigid foam insulation on the bottom and all 4 sides)

should the intake be at the top or bottom? I thought it should go from the bottom, up and back into the tank.
