Hi I have 3 hujeta and 1 4inch blackghost knifefish amongst other tings. I have 2 questions 1, will my bgk be ok with my 6 inch arow in other words they are fine now but will the bgk get to full size before the arow gets big enough to become a threat I know arows grow faster. Finally I want a true gar and was thinking crocodile gar, are any more placid than other gar if so which. Ps. I know I've got oads of monster but have a suitable tank so no need to comment on space requirements thanks

1. I am totally unfamiliar with Arrowana and can offer no knowledgable advise.
2. ALL true gar will in a relative short period of time devoure all of your Hujets and BGK.

1) Your Aro will eventually eat everything in there. Mine grew to 16" in under a year.

2)First off I'm going to assume you mean Alligator gar since crocs are hybrids of gator and one of the other species and EXTREMELY rare. Your best bet is to start with a Florida gar, true spotted gar are hard to come by as with Cubans, afaik tropical gar are available more then spotted and cubans but still not very common, Shortnose gar are not beginner gars at all and have a high mortality rate which has very little to do with disease and more to do with their schizophrenic nature. Longnose are probably the next most common gar you'll find but get bigger than Florida.

Curious as to what size tank(s) you have since most people with monster tanks like to show them off not just tell everyone I have one so don't worry about what I'm putting X fish in..

Its funny you should say that about the arow, I also have a fire eel, balas, hujeta a giant gourami and a sailfin pleco. I have on many occasion seen hujeta for instance at 8inches livig quite happily with a 24. Inch arowana. I don't want to contradict what you said but there is a level of contraversy as to if the arow us only fed non live food, grows up with the other tank members and there not the size of tiny feeder fish it can be compatable.

As to the gar question I was thinking either forida or crocidile but I'm going to wait for the others to reach full size to assess space.

Finally, my current tank which I suppose you could call a grow out is 6x2x2 and is fine at the mo as all fish bar the gourami are currently quite small. I'm well aware of the long term housing needs of the fish and as such I'm moving to a house with a concrete floor and getting n 8x3x3 built for 3.5k which was the best price I coud find. If anyone feels like donating a larger tank or the money plz feel free saves me working my ass off to get it

LOL cross out the crocodile gar they are that rare. The one I do know of is here only because the parent pair were stimulated using hormones to get them to breed in the first place. The only person I know for sure that has one is Solomon (e_americanus). And an alligator gar is still far to big for an 8x3x3, the Florida on the other hand is fine in there.

Beware, spotted grows gro extremely fast and have huge appetites, most likely will grow faster then the others and munch on them

Actually it depends on the arowana's personality i have a 8inch arowana in my 180gal with clown loaches auratus and small jack dempsey and he hasnt ate one of them though he easily could.

I agree with the statements about arowanas. Mine tries to eat things that are obviously too big to eat. He'll just catch them, swim around with them in its mouth, trying to swallow them every few minutes, and then finally give up and spit them out after they're dead.
