The LFS thats closest to me has a Needlenose an a marble gar, Im thinking about getting one of them an am curious as to which would be the best addition to go along with my TSN, RCK, Gibby, 4-line cat, an 2 bala sharks.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

If it were me and i wanted a Gar I would buy a gar :) Needlenose that is commonly in lfs is not a Gar :) Only in looks :)

better name is Needlefish or (Xenentodon cancila.) If it is what i think it is :) Had one once :( for about an hour :) MY Oscar chased it to the Africans who made short work of the 12.00 he costed

which is whats at the LFS

Hey Joey, neither of those are gars. The "marbled gar" is a characin and the needlenose is related to the saltwater needlefish. Both grow to a foot max, and would be a quick snack to a decent sized TSN.

My suggestion is get a real gar, a spotted gar ;)

ya Last gar I had was sold to me as an alligator gar, but i think it was a spotted gar. That was years ago though.
