I'm wanting to get another canister for one of my tank, I have 2 I could choose that are similar enough but I'm not sure which one is better.
Option 1. https://www.amazon.com/API-FILSTAR-...77199&sr=8-1-fkmrnull&ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmrnull_1

Option 2 https://www.amazon.com/Eheim-Classi...577074&sr=8-1-spons&ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa&psc=1

The second one is rated for upto 92 gallons while the first one is rated for upto 175. Common sense would be to get the first one.
Can anyone find any reason as to why I should get the other one?

Had the api filstar twice and it leaked for me both times. Not a fan of the filstar canister. Right now i have 2 sun sun canisters. Would go with the eheim classic as they are made to last.

Leaking is not good, especially when one is on carpet..... I've heard that sun sun canisters leak as well, how have they faired for you personally?

No issues and no leaks. Been going well for years now.

Filter rating are useless ... I would rate most canisters true rating at 20% of whatever is stated on the box. Between those two I’d buy the Ehiem every day but frankly a big Sun Sun ( with the right media) is better.

It isn't the ratings, it's how many gallons per hours it moves I believe.

You can cut that in half (or more) too. The GPH rating is for the pump alone. Sun Sun 304 pump is rated 600 gph but full of media and set up the filter flows about 250. Even the mighty FX6 ( which claims an actual circulation rate of 600 and a pump rated 1200 ish) can only get about 500 when set up.

Eh, to be honest I'm just adding more filters to see how they each individually preform and see which particular filter is the best.

I've had the eheim classic 2217 for something like 15 years, using it the whole time, and still no problems. I used a sunsun for about 2 years, that worked fine for me too. But I would recommend the eheim classic; the thing will never break.

I might put the sunsun in a 5 gallon bucket for a few months just for peace if mind after reading the stories of them leaking.
