So my baby turtle died this morning  (It was sick) and the 30 gallon tank it was on is now empty.

I was thinking of getting another ball python, but maybe a corn snake would be better , so I stared to wonder which one of them is better to have

A corn snake or a ball python or a blackking snake?

Which is better?

Hmmm...

Ease of care: corn or king
best feeding responses: corn or king
cheapest: corn
most available: corn or ball
largest (heaviest): ball
longest lifespan: ball
best personality: ball or corn
easiest to breed: corn
most color morphs: corn
coolest looking: depends???

Its all about what you're wanting. If you're looking for a quick, cheap and easy-to-care-for solution to "empty tank syndrome" the cornsnake is probably the best choice.

If you have the extra cash, and want a sleak, shiny jet-black snake, get the king.

If you want a med-sized hefty snake that is docile and tolerates handling, and are prepared for the possibility of a finicky eater, try the ball.

i would go for the Black Kingsnake.. it's the one kind of kingsnake i've always wanted and haven't got yet..

i don't understand not being able to find kingsnakes at just about any LRS. It's a little tougher trying to find the Nigritas, but i can walk into almost any LRS and pick out a kingsnake. The one down the street from me has a beautiful albino banded kingsnake right now that would make a great mate for my Bart (albino striped kingsnake), but Bart is too young.. and he's got a girlfriend all lined up for when he is big enough...

Well, that's what I was referring to...you hardly see nigritas in any old petstore. I figured that was what he was wanting.

But yeah, if you want any old kingsnake from getula, they can be found anywhere.

I've had all 3 of those snakes, I'd go with the king.

Ball pythons are kind of boring to me personally. *shrug*

Between a king and a corn either one is likely going to be docile and not mind being handled. Our black kingsnake seemed to like water a lot, and if you gave him a chance to swim he'd take it. Dunno if anyone else has done this with their kings or not, but ours would seek out water if it was nearby and he enjoyed swimming or soaking if you filled a large container like an aquarium up for him. I know a lot of snakes soak if they're getting ready to shed but he did this independently of that. My corn snake didn't seem to care about water at all.

It really depends. Some people like boids, some people like colubrids. Some people like boas over pythons and vice versa, while others prefer kneeled over smooth, and so on. It is really up to you which you like.

If you want a boid with a colubrid personality, you can't really go wrong with a Spotted Python and they are just as easy to take care of as a Corn Snake. I think you can get them between $75-$100 for a normal, or $200 and upward for a Cape York, which have been declared a subspecies in 2003, or a Granite locale.

Either way, get a mentor or a friend who has Ball Python, Cornsnake and Kingsnake and judge for yourself. I originally kept colubrids, and never liked them so I switched to boids and love them.
