I was wondering how the aggression is on these two fish. After reading about them I get the impression that more people have RD's in tanks with other fish, but I just wanted to see what people had to say about them.

of course a lot depends on the tank size and individual personality, but i don't think generally speaking that one is more aggressive than the other. anyone that is successfully keeping either of these fish with other fish either has a very large tank, an unusually tolerant specimen, or both. again, i'm just speaking in generalities here. just my opinion. hope that helps

I think way more people have midas or midas/red devil hybrids than full blooded red devils.

In my experience, Ive had Midas that were tolerant of other species but never a Red Devil that was. I think though, at full grown sizes, it might be hard to have either with other cichlids.

I have both. My reds are a mixed with midas but there build is a bulkier size and the definitely are the dominate fish. Over time I have had to pull the midas out because the reds keep picking on them. As long as there is no size competition there is not a problem but look out if there is similar size you may experience some flesh wounds:ROFL:

Each fish can have its own personality.

My Midas is a puppy dog, but then again he is only abut 5". He has always been housed with other fish (non cichlid) so he seems pretty tolerant. He is not a glass banger or mean but is very inquisitive and reminds me a lot more of an oscar with his personality.

I will be putting him into a 120g in a couple weeks with a school of silver dollars so I will see if he changes. I've heard the stories of others who have had absolute monsters that would not tolorate anything in their tank. I really hope this is not the case with my fish.

I agree with everyone on that it depends all on the fish but both are from the similiar family just different on locations. To me the red devils have a better beastly appearence and the midas has that comunity kinda you can stay here but dont .... with me while your here appearence so its just your choice on what you prefer.

My red devil / midas is the only fish (excluding dovii) that I have to house by it's self. She is not tolerant of any other fish.

In my 300 I have two pure (one f1, one wild) red devils, one midas (f2 I believe), one amarillo, and quite a few other aggressive cichlids. It's hard to believe but I really don't have any aggression issues. I think it is because I have numerous aggressive fish in a decent sized aquarium so they have just learned to live together. There are even a lot of smaller cichlids (juvie's, and cutteri's) in the tank and they don't get harassed much either.

so what im gathering from your experiences is that both are pretty aggressive haha. its cool to be able to gather info from a bunch of different people on here cuz u really get a feel for what to expect.

It all depends on the fish in question. Each fish has it's own personality, plus size of tank and tank mates can also play a factor. You can end up with a layed back fish or a beast. All depends on the fish.

Yep, it all depends on the fish and his/her surroundings growing up.
