I have a drilled overflow in my tank. I am wondering which is more quiet, an elbow or a T?

Thanks a lot.

Not sure where you plan to use these, but dual 45d unions are more effective than 1 90d union.

The Tee right hole is from overflow from tank. The top is just open.

At first I thought this was a trick question ( you know "the chicken or the egg").

If the vertical pipe size and length allows flows greater than the drilled overflow then the Tee will be louder.

With all due respect to Wyldfya, at the relatively low flows we see I don't think you would see a measurable difference between two 45's and one 90. This would be especially true if a tee is not used, effectively creating a siphon.
A long sweep on the other hand might be a slight improvement. :)

Most drilled tanks are running far more GPH than you would think. The overflows resistance can be the difference between a smaller pump, that won't quite get the job done, or a pump that can power the system as it should be. Of course flex PVC is always better, as you won't have any 90d or 45d.

Currently what i have is a 220g with 50g sump.
Singled Drilled Overflow (so using 2 45d is not possible) of 1.5" dia and pipings. And a pump running 1590gph.

Additional question is 50g sump enough for my 220g tank?
Actually I have an Eheim 2217 and I know it is not sufficient for a backup filtration.

Also can i put my return on the same side of my overflow? (Space issue)

Like the above pic. Does it affect the GPH?
