I have 6 RBP and I have them in a 75 gallon tank. They are still pretty young and small, I would say about 3-4 inches. They are growing very fast as I expected. I have a 125 gallon tank already in my possetion which is 72.5"Lx23 3/8"Hx18"W I am about to buy a 120 gallon tank that is 48"Lx24"Hx24"W. Which is the better tank for the RBs?

Really isn't that much difference between the two. I think it comes down to. Which you like better, better price, fits better in your house ect. Either will work fine. Personally id go for wider ft print for bigger fish that the future might hold.

That was what I use to think, but I read things about other fish and how width was important, so I started to wonder what would be better for P's

Yea but its 2' longer and the other one is only 6" wider, do the math, that gives the 72"x18" a bigger footprint, 18" is acceptable for rbp at any size, they can dart 6' from end to end without getting hurt, 4' isn't enough for adult rbp imo especially with their skittish personalities, now if it was 72"x12" then id say no take the 48"x24"!

Trust me I have a shoal in a 48"x18"x25" and I've looked at a few 48"x24" and no way, 72"x18" is a monster tank for a monster shoal, and hey if u do decide to use the smaller footprint send me the 72"! Lol

Can I add to my shoal if I house them in the 125? I was thinking of adding either more Reds or maybe a few Caribe.

You could do 7 at adult size in a 72"x18" imo, and if their teens or sub adults (<6") u could use it as a grow out for a dozen rbp but eventually ud need a 180 or more with that many. I have 5 6" in a 90 gallon and their starting to get a little cramped, not bad but a 72" is what I need eventually, easy way to tell if ur tank is to small is too look at the rbp, chimples are a give away as well as various other injuries.
