Which piranha would you say is meaner and more aggresive. A red throat or a black?

Elongs are said to be more aggressive but either one could end up being a pu$$, it all depends on the fish.

I agree. I have one redthroat thats not really aggressive. Maybe because its only been in my tank for a couple of days but I though it was going to be more aggresive.

Well I tried to edit my post but evidently there is a time limit, after doing some research it seems that S. Sanchezi is usually considered to be the "red throat" piranha but I have seen some Elongs labeled as a red throat also. In general I'd say...

Elong > Rhom > Sanchezi.

I always hear about the Elong being a monster but the more I read and learn, Piranha's are not nearly as hard core a we think. So with that in mind I would get the one you think looks the best. My personal fav is the purple spilo (sanchezi)

every since I had my red thoat, i kept it with a super red or red belly and they have gotten along.

Dont mix a serra with a pygo. WILL NOT WORK.

As far as the most aggressive its hard to say. Actually what is aggressive? Is aggressive to you in the way a fish eats its food or is it the way the fish interacts with you?

In my experience S. Maculatus (Gold/purple spilo, and no I am not talking about S. Sanchezi even though they are also labeled purple spilos and no i do not mean true S. Spilopleurea as they are very rare in the hobby and most "spilos" are Macs) are the most aggressive when it comes to chasing fingers and stuff.

Another thing to remember is give your fish time. My 8" Mac was a pussy for like the first three months I had him. Now he is an absolute beast and you cant walk by his tnak with out him trying to kill you!
