Still wondering to get one of those lungfish, which is the favourite P. dolloi, aethiopicus or annectens etc ? :)
Thank you.

Just got myself a small (~ 6") Protopterus aethiopicus (Marbled African Lungfish) and now live in a small tank 2ft x 1ft x 1.5ft (h) of 20 gallon with a small overhead filter.

Tank decoration : Barebottom tank with one big piece of Driftwood and keep the water level half-way mark.

Some newie questions of this lungfish:-
1) Can I just feed with it dry pellets only?
2) Would filteration good enough to keep water clean as lungfish poo a lot?
3) What is the growth rate of this lungfish or should I change to bigger tank soon?
4) lighting important to promote health of this fish?

Thank U

hey star-flog,
i see your in sg too, i reckon u got your lung from cf?
anyway heres my newbie ans to your qns.

ofcouse you can just feed pellets. i fed mine hikari sinking till it was about 1.5 feet. changed to those floating koi pellets after that.

i think the best way is to suck out the **** everyday to maintain the water. they really do **** alot.

lungfish are known to be slow growers. but mine hit 2.5ft from 10 inches in less then 2 yrs?

i dont know about the lighting portion. i just kept mine on at night. personal preference.

Thanks for the advice. I'm newie on this lungfish..
I plan to use strong pump to OHF, so that all its poo will be sucked and also barebottom tank for easy maintance. Suppose it hardy fish and water parameter is not that critical.
Some say to feed live food, MP, heartbeef, worm etc and also with frequent change of water can encourage grow. Did you see the 2 large Marbled African Lungfish on tank, its really a beauty..:WHOA:

wow cool. 1st lung and you got this? you must be loaded hahaha

i dont know about a strong pump. i used a weaker one. afraid the lung's "legs" will get sucked in. paranoid.
i fed mine fully pellets. grew pretty fast too. just pump them like crazy. they wont stop eating unless you stop feeding.

yeah man! the 2 big ones damn cool. esp the albino one. they use to have an amphibus, 3incher goin for 300+. no $$ to get that.

well the marbled is the gets to be the biggest lungfish out of all of them i think, so you'll def need a bigger tank eventually. think marbled African lungfish (P. aethiopicus) get to 6 foot. good luck with it, but i dont know the growth rate

The small marbled african lungfish price seems quite okay although still high.
The Aussie lungfish is the coolest of all, can be ordered from CF if $$$ is no problem. But seriously, for long term 'investment', the Aussie lungfish is the ultimate choice...very cool, very rare and very unique...and will impress everyone.....
Wait until this week 4D, then hahaha.. :grinyes: :grinyes:

You're right. It can grow up to 2m (7ft) in the wild.
I keep mine in 2ft tank because its just tiny 5 inches but will move to 4ft or 5ft in next year. I heard you can do 100% water change no problem as they really that hardy?
