Hi, so my Flowerhorn may have an internal parasite. White poop, not too active, still has appetite. If I were to get medicine (just in case) what would be the best one? Clear, Epsom salt, Metroplex, or other?

For parasites I've had amazing success with api general cure. I would suggest treating the food if possible.

I’d say Epsom salt, metronidazole dosed to the tank, and medicated food bound/mixed with Epsom salt solution. Plus or minus levamisole/febendazole.

Is metroplex an acceptable and successful medication as well? I just want to know since I have one here. I have had a flowerhorn who sadly passed from a sickness and I want to make sure it doesn’t happen again for as long as I can possibly keep him alive. I just want to be prepared. These are very interesting medicines and I’ll definitely look into it!

Works well when the fish eats it and mixed with Epsom salt solution. As good as the medicine is....keep in mind the fish has to be well enough to take the meds and respond to it. Flowerhorns may not have the good enough genetic variation to produce the right proteins of the immune system to fight off an infection. See too many flowerhorns with swimbladderbloat/IP. Not to mention that water quality plays a role.

A little background.
When FHs were created, they were bred o have color, and knots on their head, not for the genes needed for a healthy immune system, in fact that may have been overlooked, and sacrificed for that color and the bump on the head. Similar to the sub par health found in many EBJDs
To get past compromised immune systems, FH businesses used a plethora and overuse of antibiotics to keep as much of that poor heath product alive enough to be sold.
Of course for every action there is a reaction, and some of those bacteria bombarded with antibiotics, managed so survive and become super bugs, and with each subsequent hybrid spawning become more virulent.
So when you imagine some generic antibiotic bought in a LFS will be the magic bullet, consider the history. If it works you are lucky, if not well......

I understand this now... but I have to try to do something. He responds slowly but he does eat the pellets. If I add the metroplex or sulfaplex into the pellets with the epsom salt, he probably will take it. He isn’t too picky with food. So it just depends if my flowerhorn can take it? What would be the steps to do this?

Theres an amazing video on YouTube that I watched when treating my peacocks food. He uses seachem focus plus what ever medicine you use, and also seachem garlic to help the fish want to eat it more.

If you Google how to treat fish food It should pop up but I'll try to find the link now

Edit, here's the link -

One last question, when I add the medicine, do I have to do a water change after and isn’t it okay to put aquarium salt while there’s medicine in the tank?
