My LFS has the following species:

Speckled Epaulette Shark (trispeculare)
Ward's Wobbegong (wardi)
Marbled Catshark (macleayi)
Shovelnose Ray (unknown, probably vincentiana)

Which needs the smallest tank for a single individual for its whole life?

Marbled Catshark grow 2 feet so that would be my choice of the smallest.

I had a couple of 20" Coral Cats in a 300g and I think they would have been fine if it was just them and a few other fish. But keep in mind the Coral Cats are nocturnal and hide a lot. You will definately enjoy having other fish in with it. But they will eat Chromis, Anthias, Blennies and Clowns....trust me!

You will need to make lots of swimming room. I would stick with a long 8" long, 24" tall tank. You could probably go with a 240g as a minimum, but the added width of a 30" wide tank will allow more liverock.

I would love to trade my 2 large Coral Cats for an Epaulette Shark. Keep in mind the Eppys will get about the same size as a Bamboo Shark.
