I'm thinking of adding one more fish to one of my tanks. Don't anyone worry, if they start to get crowded, I'll take care of it. I was thinking a small cichlid for the 38, or a medium one for the 75? Blue acara or jack dempsey? Too aggressive? Any ideas?
my ctenopoma just did not mix with cichlids. a krib took eyes out of 2 of them.
They just don't "fight" the same. The bush fish turn to the side when they lose. Cichlids fight mouth to mouth. So when the krib would attack, the fish would turn to its side... and the ciclhids would bite its eye.
I have had 3 acara. 2 were huge pain in the asses. the other was really really non-aggressive.
a blue acara should work out well, very docile cichlids in general. I mixed ctenopoma with cichlids before, and it was mostly fine, except that my ctenopoma had a vendetta against my f1 chocolate I had at the time, and that wasn't going to fly with me, so I ended up giving away the ctenopoma.
All the ctenopomes I have are somewhat shy, so I was basically looking for a fish that would swim around more, and with a bit of personality. Any suggestions besides the cichlids? I think I can get a blue acara easy enough from a LFS. Also, would it be an better of an idea to add two or three small/medium cichlids, so they might pay more attention to one another, and not the ctenopomes?
the issue would be if the cichlids pair up, but if you get say a blue acara and another species of active peaceful cichlid, like rainbow cichlids, that would work out pretty well imo
