EDIT: This one has a poll since someone suggested it. :)

We all like different things. Some people like to keep Cichla, some bichirs, some all catfish, and others dozens of mixed fish in huge tank.:drool:

I think I would fall into the category of liking species tanks. Just all of the same fish. I ahve a 125 with two gars and well, IDK it just isn't doing it for me. My smaller 29 gallon interests me more than the 125, lol. So I'm thinking of making it a senegal tank, like 10-15 albino and normal variant senegals bichirs. With half of it planted densely with smaller and larger silk plants, my senegal in my 29 loves this side of the tank and then the other side is pretty much bare so he can still "stretch his fins". :) So for me I like and want to have a species tank.

What niche does the rest of MFK fall in and why? Do you like, keeping al aro's, loaches, mixed tanks. Have at it!

I like mixed tanks-normally biotopes, although my main tank right now has fish from 3 different continents all together. I like to have fish that fill different niches together. I like to have some bottom dwellers, mid-level swimmers, and surface fish as well as some pretty sedentary fish mixed with some more active ones.

For example, I'm working on a small biotope tank as a growout for my baby SAL. The plan is to have the lung, a few species of tetra occupying the middle, some hatchets for the surface, and then maybe some cories for the bottom, and then assuming he doesn't turn into a tankmate-eater, he'll be moved up to bigger tanks with accordingly-sized peaceful tankmates that fill out those niches.

i keep bacon tanks! dash of CRS shrimp, stir. fold in african cichlids. bake at planted tank and allow community tank to cool. lightly dust with breeding tank of feeder FW shrimp. I AM NOT A NUGGET!

Like I said in your other thread, I like fish.. and that means ALL fish. But I don´t mix fish from other continents in the same tank. SA goes in one tank etc.

mmmm... bacon

only 1 tank right now, so in the bacon category, but when i have more room i plan on sorting them by at least continent, might go as far as specific biotopes or species only one day.

what was the difference between mixed tanks and an assortment of everything? I think I have mixed tanks, ie a bunch of random fishies in the same tank. I only have one 29 gallon and don't have room for anything else so I've got a rainbow shark, paradise gourami, and 5 tiger barbs in it and am considering giant danios and a dwarf cichlid. don't diss my small fish! I have no room, no money, and no parental consent to get any bigger tanks.

I think by mixed tanks he means only one species of fish in a tank, but numerous different tanks. For example, you might have one arowana tank and one cichlid tank, whereas with an assortment of everything you have all different species in one tank.

i don't have one. i joined here cus i accidentally bout a baby catfish a few uears ago that got huge so catfish was kind of the niche i started in then i really got into cichlids and now im really likin' piranha
