My mom's 55g has become a science experiment of sorts with unwanted fish from many sources and its time to get rid of them (well, it's been time). there is ich in the tank, which was "introduced" by accident from the pictus, so they will all stay until it is gone. right now, they all seem to be okay and dont really bother each other, at least when we're around. my question is what can be kept in there comfortably? there are plenty of hiding spaces, filtration is 1 top fin 60 HOB filter and i am going to make a 10g wet/dry. it is at my dad's/mom's work and they like all of the fish in there, but it cant go on like this, esp. w/ the weak filtration it currently has. so, i ask you, what fish can we keep w/ the ones that are staying (under "staying:" in the list). the JD and africans have been in there for quite a while and seem to be doing fine. the africans actually were in pretty soft water before (not ideal conditions). my thoughts are that the ones she definitely wants to keep will be more than enough.

Staying:
7" female jack dempsey
6" P. acei (female?)
3" rubber-lip pleco
4" green severum (if possible)

????????:
2" red tip shark
2" giant danios (x2)
3" gourami (x3, "blue" and "gold", i think)
4" pimodelus blochii
2" pictus cat

will get way too big and have to go:
3" bala shark
2" sailfin pleco
6" common pleco
4" red oscar

dont really want anyway:
6" orange zebra (african cich)

i may keep the gourami and danios in my 20g until the aro is big enough to eat them, even though i think gouramis are one of the ugliest aquarium fish you can get

IIRC the red tip shark will grow similarly to the bala, so may need to go due to size as well.

All the other ones under the ????? heading should be ok for the long term.

What are you going to do with the ones that are too big and need to go? I may be interested in the bala and the sailfin if you're getting rid of them. I live in N Aurora, so I could pick up if you're in the Metro area.

red tails only get 6" or so, but they can be pretty aggressive, esp towards similarly colored fish, but that shouldnt be a problem w/ the others.

i dont have any problems with you getting either of those. i work at 58th Ave. and I-25, so you could meet me there in the morning, but they would be in zip-lock bags for a couple hours. idk how well that whole thing would work out, but if it does, that fine. i cant remember if either of those showed any ich, but i'm going up there soon, so i'll check them out.

If they're in the tank with ich, then they have ich. Best to finish treating before getting rid of. Unless dex has a quarentine tank to continue treatment in. If you guys need me to, I could set up a tank too hold the fish for a couple days, as to make for more conveinant pick up. Im near I-25 and 144th Ave, probably about midway between the two of ya.

I have a 10 gallon tank, but it's not set-up. I could get it setup in a couple of hours with water from one of my established tanks, but that would not be ideal. I live at roughly 225 and Colfax.

we'll figure something out. i'm not worried about getting them out in a hurry

btw, i need to take some pix of the acei. males get bigger than females, right? i've had the acei for probably 4 years and my mom has had the JD for probably about the same. i guess the africans are probably more like 5". i dont know much about sexing them or JD's, but i'm sure the JD is female due to lack of coloring and the presence of "blue beard"

well, i found the pictus dead last night, so thats one less fish to worry about. anyone have any other input?

looks like they all got rid of the ich already. dexman is taking the bala, red tip, and sailfin. the pictus is dead and the oscar will probably go back into my 125. i'm also getting rid of the orange zebra and the common pleco. so, which of the fish that are left do you think i need to get rid of yet?
