I'm going to set up a 75 gallon tank in the somewhat near future. I will most likely put a featherfin synodontis catfish in there, but I wondered what everyone else thought was the best tankmate for it. I was leaning towards getting an oscar, or a jack dempsey. I would like a kind of large cichlid with a neat personality that would both fit into the setup and get along with the catfish. A penny for your thoughts? Or perhaps a friendly thank you? :)

I had one with an Oscar, no problem. They do get fairly bulky. And with those barbs on the side, they don't go down so easy. While I love Oscars those Jacks; are good lookers. Good luck.

i agree with both posts. i have only had a couple of each. the jd were lookers but very skiddish. the oscars were very personable.

If all you have to choose form is the oscar or JD than I say oscar. Everyone needs to have at least one of these guys.

Not a fan of O's or JD. Get a Vieja.

My JD I had was a hider until I learned about using dithers, then he ate them all in a week or so and went back to hiding.

i only have experience w/ one JD (adult female) and it hides all of the time and is a little skittish. I've had 4 O's and they all were owner-friendly
