Hello everyone I'm thinking about buying discus and I wanted to know what type of tank you would put them in.

i cant keep plants alive so id go with all natural decor and some plastic plants

30" tall tank at least 4' x 2' footprint...(standard 150) If your an ace at planted tanks then go for it but personally I think it'll be a lot simpler to find complementry colors with plastic plants. Why get a showpiece fish and stick it a box of water?

Excessively large tanks can be bad for young discus. They will actually have too much room to swim in, and burn through their calories very fast, causing a somewhat stunted discus. It can still work, but you have to feed far more. 48x24x30 is bigger than is really necessary.

that logically doesnt make sense.

Alot of live plants just cant take the heat that discus need. Id have a sandy bottom ALOT of driftwood...some rock some very sparse fake plants and I would dedicate one filter just to pumping peat into the tank. Discus really look their best in some tea colored water.
