I think the digital readings are best.

I am confused with some my temp reader, my digital temp reads 79F, the sticker on the tank reads 76F. now should i just buy a glass termometer? I don't want my tank having inaccurate reading!:irked: even my heater reads crazy! what do you guys suggest?:(

check it ice water or in boiling water ( 32F and 212F ).......

the ones on the glass actually read the temp of the glass. i belive the glass is close to the water temp but not as hot. its like a window in your house, the glass temp is sort of a balance between outside and inside.

Agreed.. In my opinion the stickers are USELESS. Unless that is all you have to go by.. After a while you start to get a natural feel for water temp:) A few tanks to change every week helps LOL

Those stickers on the glass usually give you a range. Whenever I look at mine it gives me a rang between about 74-86 degrees. Yea not very helpful. I usually just rely on my Hydrometer for accurate readings.

:iagree: easiest & cheapest way to calibrate the digital IF IT READS AT THOSE TEMPS...don't want you to melt the probe :D .

I don't like the digital units i had around 8 running at the same time all with fresh batterys and all different readings..
the stick on glass one were the most consistent just count on a few degs difference in reading..
I used a infra red tester to get the exact temp and kept in mind what the difference was ..only 2degs in my case.

spit the difference...and call it a day! as long as they arn't like 8, 10 or more off, it must be close, so stab the middle and believe it :)

the 212F would only be correct at sea level.

I use multiple thermos and check against each other. the one digital I have is real close to the in tank glass type, the biggest varience I have is with the outside stick ons.
