Okay guys, I value your opinions most of all, that is why i am asking for your suggestions. I have a 175 bowfront I am stocking. It will have large predators(not exactly sure of just what yet) along with a large fire eel. If you were to have one species of polypterus for this tank which one would it be and why?. cost is not a factor. Thanks alot

one species? you should get a couple different ones. My favorite is the endlicheri, they look awesome and they get big. I think endli's are the nicest looking species and probably the most active. Whatever you do, don't get a senegal! They're real small and mine hides all day.

I have an ornate and senegal now, I'm getting some endli's and some congicus.

If it's really green i'd take any species lol... like Infblue's mokelembembe. I got to say I love the buettikoferi too. However big bichirs are impressive so.... the biggest you can fit.

I have different experience. I had 3 endli and 2 out of the 3 were lazy as heck. I sold the two lazy one and kept the active one. Generally, senegals are active. Maybe your senegal is F up in the head so it's always hiding. My senegal is pretty active.

If one poly and price is not a factor then get something rare. Platinum Endlicheri, Platinum senegals, or Congicus Endli

i would get one of the lower jaws if price is not a concern. :)
all my bichirs are active as heck.
except the dam ornate. :D

since i am totally new to these, at the risk of sounding stupid what is the difference between lower jaw and upper jaw and which one are which?
Thanks for your patience

lower jaw are those which lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw.
these are more well...cool looking.
look more like dragons sort of.
upper jaws are those which upper jaw is longer than the lower jaw.
many of them look less predator like(well,i dunno how to describe well.) but are still very cool non the less.

My endi and lapradei just sit there like lumps lol My ornates are much more fun and active!
