Mono's Tems, Ocellaris.

Just in regards to feeding, and protecting themselves.

from what ive seen in pbass ive owned orinos are the most aggressive.

azuls most aggressive but since you didn't list them, from those 3 on the list.. I would say tems..

Thats odd...we have 2 12" tems and 3 6"...ALL of them are the most docile Pbass we have. In fact the 3 6"er's even hide when we're feeding them. The 2 larger tems fuss around with each other but stay well away from the large orino (even though they are larger.) and my 20" silver aro.

That's because they know if they get near the orino they will get their *** kicked lol. Out of tems, monos and ocellaris.. tems are the most aggro.

I don't really think there can be a definitive answer. I've had orinos, azuls, tems, monocs and a big hybrid of some kind. I really haven't found any of mine to be aggressive while "protecting themselves" except when they were really tiny. That was the orino that I had. The tems wanted food the worst, but the orinos would hit live a little harder than the tems. I really think it mostly has to do with the particular fish, not the sp.

in a group situation with mixed species orinos are ba$tards for relentless and hard hitting...next in line are azuls......IMO from all the bass I have kept orinos and azuls are completely different temperment wise from other common cichla...they are more prone to pick fights and take it to the next level instead of just leaving it at a chase and nip as monocs, ocellaris do....tems are a mixed bag,I have had some that are very aggressive and others that were docile....I think it comes down to several factors..which are stocking levels(how many fish are in the group) and the mix of species...say 3 orinos to one monoc will definately give your monoc the "outcast" drama. Also decore will play a factor...depending on how the tank is set up will determin whether a certain bass will want a certain area for territory will defend it more so than a bass not defending territory.....blah blah
anyway..it really depends on alot of things that will determin how aggressive the bass will be....but just casual no drama tank...a few orinos will drive you mad with bantering other bass.

Maybe since my azul got his arse kicked when he was little he never shows any aggression. He'll sit and watch a piece of falling good to make sure he doesn't take someone else's. He'll make sure no one wants it before he tries.
