I am debating getting a Maxi-Jet Submersible Utility Pump and I am looking at the 4500 which is 1,240 gph and the 5500 model which is 1,384 gph.

This will go along with my Marineland Model 4 sump.

Which one would you buy?

I would buy neither. Buy a QuietOne 6000. its way quieter and has a better track record.
I have one in my sump and it is pumping like a champ @ 1200-1300gph against 4-5ft of head.
The Maxi jet claim of x=amount of flow is not true in my experience given any amount of head pressure.

I have a Little Giant, and its less than a low whisper for noise... and its an external pump. I have a hard time imagining any submersible pump is loud, as you suggest.

The Maxi Jet pump is LOUDER THAN the Quiet One. I have both. Fact, not suggestion. Its vibration and resonance more than noise to put a finer point on it.:irked:

Thanks for your input!!!

I actually went ahead and bought the 4500 since I hadn't heard from anybody. I am new to the hobby and I want to get my tank set up soon. It had good reviews and it will meet my needs. Plus it is Marineland which is the sump I bought. Model 4.

u r not getting close to that in return flow. the 6000's drop pressure real quick.

i have a quiet one 6000 on my 210 and works great. no complaints about noises or pressure.

Do you have twin overflows? Are you using one pump for both then?

I got two Maxi-Jet 4500s for my 210 with dual overflows. One for each.
