I'm planning for the set up of my 135, and was wondering which pump the masses prefer for my situation. I'm using a 40L (48"x 12.5") for the sump, and will be using 3 or so gallons of bioballs for biomedia. I also have 2 AC 70's that I'm probably going to use for additional mechanical filtration, assuming they fit over the trim. If they don't I'll probably add a AC 110 then.

I've got two good sized Rotkeils, 7 bleeding heart tetras, 3 cories, and a BN that I"ll be adding. In the future, I'll add more tetras and cories to fill out schools. Not sure if any more cichlids are on the way or not. Perhaps some rams. Whatever the case, it won't be heavily stocked with big cichlids.

I'm choosing between the Quiet One 4000 and the Mag Drive 9.5. I know the mag drive moves more water, and is a favorite pump around here. However, the quiet one is cheaper to buy, and cheaper to run in the long term too. I'm going to be using 2 1" DIY overflows, and will have approx 5' of head to contend with.

Thoughts?

Actually the Quiet One 4000 moves 1017 GPH and 4000HH moves 980 GPH and Mag Drive 9.5 only moves 950 GPH...

Off the top of my head (and I may be wrong about this), the output curve of the mag drive is much more resistant to head pressure, especially at the 5 foot mark. I think the mag drive is supposed to move about 800-850 gph at five feet where the quiet one moves only about 700-750 at that head height. Maybe I made that up.

Anyone have strong preferences one way or the other?
