i've got 2 red devils or devil/midas cross i know it's difficult to tell, i bought 2 of them with the view of only keeping one but the slightly bigger one with the all black eyes is constantly picking on the other one so i thought i would chose one now and re-home the other.
is it possible to tell what colour they may end up when adults, the bigger and more aggressive one has all black eyes and black patches all over it's body and fins and the smaller one is just a plain colour.
just wondering what peoples thoughts are as to which one to keep :)

Unfortunatly there is no way to tell what the final color will be when full grown. These guys peel and go through several color changes on the way to adulthood. Just pick the one you like the best that's about all you have to go on.

best advice ive heard is flip a coin, one fish for heads, one for tails

while its in the air, deep inside, you'll be rooting for it to land on a certain side, then you'll know which one you really want to keep

haha i like that idea, i think i will keep the more aggressive one with the black eyes, i wasn't sure if having all the black patches would give and idea of the adult colour :)

There's no way to know how each will turn out. RD can look completely different in just over a few months period. Choose the one that you like the best. If the dominant one is removed, you will see a change in the smaller RD behavior, and maybe appearance. I've seen sub-dominant RD look and act much differently once another aggressive RD is taken away. So you can't really guess the future appearance of a RD based on its current conditions. Either way, I'm sure you'll be happy. They are great cichlids to keep.

my red devil had black patches all over when i got him at 3inches. Now hes alot bigger and all red no black. He is still changing but turned out nice.
